Natural beauty ‘further up the female agenda’

As people become increasingly concerned about their health, more Brits are turning to natural and ethically produced beauty products, it is said.

According to the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (Babtac), health concerns are some of the core reasons more consumers are opting to buy natural beauty products.

Latest research from MINTEL GNPD Cosmetic Research shows that across Europe over 2,260 ethical cosmetics and skincare products were launched last year alone – a fivefold increase on 2006 figures.

Commenting on the trend, Phillip Swinford, a spokesperson for Babtac, said: “A growing awareness of the holistic treatment of the body, even using individual cosmetics, individual treatments and products; there is that awareness. That leads to a growing awareness among people of their health, and how it is reflected in beauty.”

The study found that purchasing all-natural products formed the number one consideration for more than two in five British women when it comes to cosmetics and skincare.
